Who is Greg Davies and how tall is he? Cuckoo actor who is the host of Dave's Taskmaster

GREG Davies is a Bafta winning funnyman, who is returning to our screens as the Taskmaster TONIGHT (October 15, 2020).

He's also well known for his role as the headmaster in The Inbetweeners.

Who is Greg Davies? What's his background?

Funnyman Greg Davies turned a teaching career into comedy with inspired TV characters.

The actor, 52, who was born in Denbighshire, Wales, on May 14, 1968, grew up in Wem, Shropshire.

He studied English and drama at Brunel University, before embarking on a 13-year teaching career at two schools in Berkshire and Orleans Park School in Twickenham.

His experience has undoubtedly inspired some of his funniest onscreen alter-egos, including Dan in Channel 4’s Man Down, a teacher who hates his job.

In 2005, Greg first dipped his toe into the world of acting by featuring in a series of adverts for Channel 4’s coverage of The Ashes.

After performing a string of stand-up comedy shows, he was nominated in three categories at the Chortle Awards three years later.

His career really flourished in 2010, when his first solo show Firing Cheeseballs at a Dog debuted at the Edinburgh Festival, before it was taken on tour the following autumn.

Greg stands at a height of 6ft 8in – and he has size 13 feet.

Is Greg Davies the Taskmaster?

Greg has taken on the role of the Taskmaster since the Dave channel show of the same name started in 2015.

The show is now about to start its tenth series.

He presides over the show, setting silly challenges for five comedians over a series of weeks.

He is assisted by Alex Horne, who he refers to as "little Alex Horne" despite his height of 6ft 2inches – a whole six inches shorter than Greg.

The winner takes home a trophy of Greg's head.

What TV shows and films has Greg Davies been in?

One of the former teacher’s most famous roles is Mr Gilbert on E4 sitcom The Inbetweeners.

The sarcastic character left viewers crying with laughter as he took down the socially inept students with his cutting comments.

Since 2012, Greg Davies has appeared in BBC comedy Cuckoo, which stars Andy Samberg, Taylor Lautner, Tamla Kari and Helen Baxendale.

He has also written and starred in Channel 4 sitcom Man Down, a series that follows the struggles of a teacher who has broken up with his girlfriend.

His stand-up experience has made Greg a regular on TV panel shows, including Would I Lie To You, and he has also featured on episodes of Live At The Apollo.

Greg also hosted the Royal Variety Performance in 2018 – which saw him apologise to his mum after an epic blunder.

He's also explored his roots on the hit ancestry show Who Do You Think You Are?

Greg's patriotic father insisted that he be born on Welsh land so that he could represent the country if he became an international rugby star.

But although he may not have had a glittering rugby career, he did take to the stage instead.

And in the show he traced his lineage as a way of becoming closer to his proudly-Welsh late father.

The comic discovered a wayward great-grandfather and unearthed the deepest Welsh root that any proud Welshman could hope for.
