Five law graduates shack-up in a shared house in south London and experience the real working world for the first time.
But whilst there’s work, there’s also play – and plenty of it in This Life, as the fivesome have fun discovering what it’s like to be a 20-year-old young gun in the big city.
The hit BBC show first broadcast in 1996 and spanned 33 episodes across two successful series.
And there was even a special reunion episode a decade after first being broadcast as Egg, Miles Stewart, Anna Forbes, Milly Nassim and Warren Jones all got together to see where their lives had taken the.
But where are the stars of the show now? Well, some of the actors have gone on to find Hollywood fame, win BAFTA awards and slam sexism in the TV and film industry, whilst others have found success in TV and even appeared in Game of Thrones.
Andrew Lincoln – Egg
Went on to star as the character Simon Casey in the hit Channel 4 series Teachers before hitting the big time in Richard Curtis’ romantic comedy smash Love Actually.
He starred alongside Hollywood stars including Colin Firth, Hugh Grant and Emma Thompson in the popular movie.
That success catapulted his career and in 2010 he gained international fame for his portrayal of Rick Grimes, the lead character in the apocalyptic horror TV series The Walking Dead.
Andrew twice won a Saturn Award for Best Actor on Television for the role, in 2015 and 2017.
He has also appeared in a string of movies including Human Traffic, Heartbreaker and Gangster No 1, as well as starring in a series of theatre productions during a successful career.
He is married to Gael Anderson, daughter of Ian Anderson, from the band Jethro Tull. The couple have two children.
Jack Davenport – Miles Stewart
Actor Jack played unlucky in love Miles, who finally found happiness with character Francesca on the show. But do any diehard fans remember his disastrous relationship with Delilah?
But not without having a bit of fun with Anna Forbes (Daniel Nardini) on the hit show.
Jack went on to star in BBC comedy Coupling and is well-known for his role as James Norrington, starring alongside Johnny Depp, in the Hollywood blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean franchise movies.
The son of actor Nigel Davenport and Maria Aitken, Oxford-educated Jack has starred in many movies including The Talented Mr Ripley, Ultraviolet, Kingsman: The Secret Service and The Wedding Date, as well as having enjoyed a successful TV and voiceover career.
He made his US Broadway debut in 2018 playing the Earl of Warwick in a revival of George Bernard Shaw’s Saint Joan.
He is married to Scottish actress Michelle Gomez and the couple have an 11-year-old son, Harry.
Daniela Nardini – Anna Forbes
Daniela, who celebrated her birthday yesterday, was a troubled character on the show.
But she played the character Anna with such aplomb, that she won a BAFTA for Best Actress in 1998 and also a Scottish BAFTA.
And that led to starring roles TV shows including Reckless, Sirens and Gunpowder, Treason and Plot, as well as brief roles in BBC show Waterloo Road.
She also scooped a Scottish BAFTA for her fine performance in Annie Griffin’s New Town.
However, the Scottish actress has been vocal on what she believes is sexism in the industry, a problem she said which prevented her from landing more jobs.
“Women are seen to be off the market when they are 35,” she once told The Telegraph.
Anna has also had extensive stage experience and appeared in Camille, Top Girls, Etta Jenkins and A Streetcar Named Desire.
Nadia lives with her partner in Glasgow and the couple have a daughter.
Amita Dhiri – Milly Nassim
Amita was in a relationship with Egg in the show and memorably punched character colleague Rachel in the face in the final episode of the show.
Milly was the sensible one of the eclectic group and even had an affair on the show with her boss.
Amita has since gone on to land roles in Casualty, Holby City, Silent Witness and police hit The Bill.
She famously revealed she spent time in a police station and driving a police car in preparation for her role.
She has also starred in Absolute Power, The Last Train, Dalziel and Pascoe and Judge John Deed.
Amita has also appeared on a string of radio shows and in a handful of theatre productions during her varied career.
She is married and has two daughters, Maeve and Edna.
Jason Hughes – Warren Jones
Jason's character Warren famously struggled to come out as gay to his housemates, but viewers saw the loveable guy as a steadying influence on the house.
One storyline saw him hooking up with biker Ferdy in the show and later, Jason went on to find TV success in shows including Marcella, as Detective Sergeant Ben Jones in Midsomer Murders, and Three Girls.
He also has credits for shows including London’s Burning, Peak Practice, Harry Enfield and Chums, Death in Paradise and Casualty.
The star is also close friends with the Hollywood actor Michael Sheen, whom he met when he was starting out as a budding actor, and he has also enjoyed working on plenty of radio and theatre productions.
Jason is now married and has three children.
Ramon Tikaram – Ferdy
As the aforementioned love interest of Warren in the hit show, Ramon has gone on to have a successful career in the industry.
He played the bisexual Ferdinand Garcia in This Life before eventually going on to land a role in the hit show Game of Thrones.
However, his character was killed off during the show’s reunion episode.
He has appeared in EastEnders, Greg Davies comedy Man Down, Pennyworth and Happy Valley.
Singapore-born Ramon also starred as Judas in the London West End production of Jesus Christ Superstar and also performed the role of King of Siam in theatrical production of the The King and I.
Amazingly he turned down a role in the Star Wars prequel trilogy because it required him to have his hair cut.
Ramon went on to play the role of Prendhal in GOT and he has also done plenty of voice acting and narration during a distinguished career.
Fun fact! Ramon released two music singles in 1992 followed by the album Chill and Kiss.
