When Betty Suarez landed on ABC and at Mode magazine, no one could ever predict her impact. Ugly Betty premiered in 2006 as an adaptation of the Colombian telenovela, Betty, la fea, and ran for four seasons. It’s been more than 10 years since the TV show ended, sending Betty and Daniel off to new adventures. But where are America Ferrera and the rest of the talented cast members today?
America Ferrera played the titular character in the series, and after it wrapped in 2014, she continued to do voiceover work for the How to Train Your Dragon franchise. However, Ferrera also went on to star in NBC’s Superstore and other projects, and works behind the camera too. She directs the Netflix series, Gentefied.
Ferrera and husband Ryan Piers Williams welcomed their second child in May 2020, and she’s one of the investors backing efforts to bring a National Women’s Soccer League team to her city.
Eric Mabius changed his ways as Daniel Meade, working through family dysfunction, womanizing antics, and takeover drama at Mode. After Ugly Betty, Mabius appeared in shows such as Outcast and Chicago Fire, and landed lead roles in Hallmark’s Signed, Sealed, Delivered TV movie series. He and his wife have two children.
Ana Ortiz played Betty’s protective older sister Hilda Suarez in Ugly Betty. She’s had a successful run in film and television with roles in Devious Maids, The Mindy Project, Ralph Breaks the Internet, and Elena of Avalor. Ortiz even did a guest spot on Superstore. The married mom of two can currently be seen in Love, Victor.
Sweet Justin. Mark Indelicato brought a spark to the character as Betty’s smart, lovable nephew. He’s still in acting and has since branched out into fashion blogging and photography. Fans can catch Indelicato in Dead of Summer and HBO Max’s Hacks.
Tony Plana has been in the acting game for more than a minute. After waving goodbye to Ignacio Suarez in Ugly Betty, he snagged roles in The Fosters, Lethal Weapon, Mayans M.C., The Punisher, and more. He too popped up in Superstore along with his beloved co-stars.
Vanessa Williams knows she does a superb job as a villain, and Wilhelmina Slater became a fan favorite with her diabolical scheming and biting commentary. Williams, an accomplished award-winning singer and actor, got remarried in 2015.
She is still active in film, TV, and the Broadway world, but her most recent projects include Girls5eva, Bad Hair, and T.O.T.S. (Tiny Ones Transport Service) on Disney Junior.
Michael Urie played the shady and hilarious Marc St. James who loved to gossip and plot. Urie’s also active on the theater scene, but fans may recognize him as Redmond in Younger. Over the years, he’s appeared in Modern Family, The Good Wife, The Good Fight, and Smithtown. Urie tackled another form of performance as a narrator for an Audible book: Midnight Cowboy. Look out for him in HGTV’s Clipped.
Becki Newton played the sabotage queen Amanda Tanen. She and Urie are still the best of friends, and often post each other on social media. Newton expanded her acting credits with parts in How I Met Your Mother, American Dad, Tell Me a Story, and Divorce.
She and her husband welcomed their third child in April 2020, and she loves motherhood. Newton also works with The Samburu Project, an organization that supports community initiatives like clean water for the Samburu people in Kenya.
Jensen was also a fan favorite as Christina McKinney, one of Betty’s true friends at Mode. Though she left Ugly Betty before the final season aired, Jensen teamed up with Ferrera in How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. She’s also been in After Life with Ricky Gervais, Gnomeo & Juliet, Love, Lies and Records, and Agatha Raisin. Sadly, Jensen experienced personal tragedy when her husband Terence Beesley died in 2017.
