The One Show viewers struggled to hold back the tears after numerous medical students graduated early so they can help the NHS on the frontline.
Alex Jones and Alex Scott spoke with medical student Holly who is graduating from the University of Nottingham early so she can help during the coronavirus pandemic.
Junior doctor Holly told the hosts: ‘So we graduated today and we will be going to work on the wards in the next few weeks and we are from Nottingham Medical School but it’s likely we will be sent all over the UK.
‘So today on a Zoom call, was the last time we would see each other.
‘We haven’t been told where we will be sent yet, it’s something we are looking forward to it but it’s a strange situation to be in.’
‘It’s a weird one, we never expected this to happen we thought we would graduate in July. It’s not how we pictured it but we were all keen to do this because of what is going on,’ she continued.
As a big thanks to the medical students The One Show organised a virtual graduation to give them the send-off they deserve.
Following the segment viewers quickly took to social media to praise the students and the show – and it’s safe to say things got a bit emotional.
One viewer tweeted: ‘The virtual graduation for student doctors on @BBCTheOneShow#theoneshow tonight was quite emotional, congratulations to them all.’
Another said: ‘#TheOneShow was brilliant tonight. Don’t usually catch it these days but got the tail end of it. So much admiration for the prematurely graduated junior doctors supporting the NHS.’
