The Last Kingdom season five will hopefully arrive on Netflix before the end of 2021. In the upcoming season, Uhtred (played by Alexander Dreymon) is expected to make one last attempt to claim back his homeland. Some fans believe there may be trouble ahead for some of Uhtred’s friends and allies.
Will Hild and Haesten become prisoners?
The Last Kingdom season five will take inspiration from the books titled Warriors of the Storm and The Flame Bearer, by Bernard Cornwell.
A release date has not yet been announced, but fans have shared some photos from the film set of the upcoming season.
The photos show Uhtred’s close friend Hild (Eva Birthistle) and his long-standing foe Haesten (Jeppe Beck Laursen) together on a beach.
Uhtred’s evil cousin Wihtgar (Ossian Perret) is also in the same scene, which has worried fans.
They believe Uhtred will return to Bebbanburg only to face more casualties, following the death of Father Beocca (Ian Hart).
There is no knowing which side antagonist Haesten will take in the upcoming season, as he seemed to resign from his role in season four.
He became less involved in the fighting and was more interested in settling down with a wife.
One fan said on Reddit: “Great to see that Hild is getting more screentime this season since she only appeared in the first two episodes of Season 4. Haesten is in the same scene.. hope he is not doing anything against her.” [Sic]
Another fan said: “Haesten can be good or bad, just depending on where his selfishness ends up on the spectrum. That’s why he can be so fun and aggravating!”
While some viewers believed Haesten would try and kill Hild, others have suggested they both become prisoners.
Another Reddit user said: “Is that not Wihtgar in the same shot as well? I don’t feel good about that.”
A fan then replied: “It’s him. Maybe both Hild and Haesten are his prisoners.” There also appears to be a shipwreck on the set.
With this in mind, Uhtred’s attempt to claim back Bebbanburg appears to come with plenty of obstacles.
From the photos, it seems Hild and Haesten will be spending more screentime together than ever before.
Fans have even gone as far as to suggest they may become a couple, with one saying: “Hild and Haesten marriage? Hell yes.”

Another replied: “Hild and Haesten, how did they get together? You have to give it to Haesten, he is a slippery joker.”
In a separate Reddit post, more photos showed the cast filming at Blackhall Beach in the UK.
The photos show Hild in a blue dress with long, flowing blonde hair, and Haesten is by her side.
They are surrounded by debris from a shipwreck, with various trunks and barrels strewn around them.
There is also a small group of warriors wielding swords and shields, wearing chainmail.
Fans may be in for a shock as Haesten finally joins ‘Team Uhtred’ and helps him claim back his homeland.
There is a chance Uhtred has promised Haesten some of the land so he can finally settle down, giving Haesten a motive.
One thing is for certain, fans are already ecstatic to see these two characters star alongside each other.
Viewers believed Hild’s fighting days were over, but it seems she will be at the centre of the action once more.
The Last Kingdom is on Netflix now.
