The Book of Boba Fett is the new spin-off of The Mandalorian, with the series focusing on the beloved title character from the original Star Wars trilogy. Reintroduced in the hit Disney Plus series, Boba Fett (played by Temuera Morrison) will be explored in a way fans have never seen before. Luckily, the wait for the spin-off is almost over.

When is The Book of Boba Fett out?

As soon as The Mandalorian was first announced back in 2018, fans were hoping to see Boba Fett return.

Originally killed off in Star Wars: Episode VI – The Return of the Jedi, fans had hoped for a revival of the character.

In season two of The Mandalorian, their hopes were finally realised when Boba Fett returned to live-action for the first time over 30 years.

At the end of the season, The Book of Boba Fett was teased, though at the time it wasn’t clear what exactly this project would be.

It is now known that it will be a self-contained mini-series focusing on the title character, debuting exclusively on Disney Plus.

Disney just confirmed the release date as well, with the show set to debut on December 29, 2021.

This will more than hold fans over until The Mandalorian season three, which is also in development.

The news comes during a quieter year than usual for Star Wars, with only Dave Filoni’s The Bad Batch and Star Wars: Visions releasing this year – both animated series.

Alongside the confirmed release date, Disney also dropped the first image of Boba Fett in the series, sitting in the throne Jabba the Hutt once sat in during the original trilogy.

Clearly, the show will be a continuation after the events of The Mandalorian season two, but there is little information on the plot.

What will The Book of Boba Fett be about?

The events of The Mandalorian season two are set five years after Return of the Jedi, with Boba Fett back from the dead after surviving the Sarlacc pit.

It hasn’t been confirmed if the new show will explore exactly how the bounty hunter made it out of the pit alive, or if will focus on new events.

Some of the plot will clearly take place after season two of The Mandalorian, based on the image.

This puts it the canonically closest to the events seen in the sequel trilogy, namely Star Wars: Episode: VII – The Force Awakens.

What is known is that Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, Jon Favreau, and Robert Rodriguez will all be back to produce the series.

At the moment, the only other cast member attached to the series is Ming-Na Wen, who played Fennec Shand in The Mandalorian and voiced the character in The Bad Batch.

More will be likely revealed during Disney Plus Day on November 12, Disney’s event showing off all the upcoming projects for the service.

This is when the first trailer will most likely drop, finally giving fans an idea of just what the show will be about.

The actor behind Boba Fett, Temuera Morrison, is the original voice actor and star of the clones and Jango Fett, Boba’s dad – from the prequel trilogy.

Speaking to StarWars.com back in 2020, the star opened up about how it felt to play the iconic character in live-action.

Morrison explained: “There were moments when I put the armour on and I was looking at Dave [Filoni] and Jon [Favreau], and the expression on their faces just said it all.

“It felt good. It felt right. It felt like, ‘Yes, I should be wearing this costume.’ And it gave me this sense of, ‘I’m back.’”

The Book of Boba Fett will premiere exclusively on Disney Plus on December 29.
