Many Ted Lasso fans missed Hannah Waddingham’s delightful Emmy Awards speech because it was so early in the 73 Primetime Emmy Awards. Luckily, the Television Academy quickly dropped the full speech online, and fans replayed it all night. Here’s your complete Ted Lasso Emmys recap and the entire fan-favorite speech from Waddingham.
‘Ted Lasso’ Emmy Award Wins 2021
Going into the 73rd Primetime Emmy Awards, Apple TV+’s Ted Lasso had 20 nominations. Within minutes, the Ted Lasso cast and crew took home two awards. Hannah Waddingham, who portrays the AFC Richmond owner Rebecca Welton, won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy Series. She started the night off with a fan-favorite speech telling the world how shocked she was to speak at the Emmys.
Immediately after Waddingham won, Goldstein took the stage to accept his Emmy Award for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series. Fans weren’t sure whether he chose to act like Roy Kent or if that’s how he is in real life. But he delivered an expletive-filled speech that also delighted the audience.
Ted Lasso also won for Outstanding Casting, Outstanding Single-Camera Picture Editing, and Outstanding Sound Mixing in a Comedy Series. Later in the evening, Jason Sudeikis gave his Emmy speech for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series. Plus, at the end of the evening, the cast and crew took the stage when they won the Outstanding Comedy Series 2021.
Hannah Waddingham’s Emmy Speech 2021
Before Waddingham took the stage at the 2021 Emmy Awards, she embraced her Ted Lasso co-star, Juno Temple. It was evident from the heartfelt hug and Waddingham’s speech that the two became very close while filming. Temple plays Rebecca’s close friend in Ted Lasso, Keeley Jones. Then she walked up on stage and screamed!
“Jesus Christ on a bike, sorry,” Waddingham began her Emmy speech. “Oh my gosh, I am not responsible for anything that pulls out of my face in the next 30 seconds. Jason, you’ve changed my life with this and, more importantly, my baby girl’s. I will work for you for as long as you’ll let me because I’m honestly, I’m so privileged to work with you. I really am.”
Then she let out another screaming sentence that fans loved.
“Oh my God, I’m giving a speech at the Emmys,” she screeched and then broke into laughter.
After thanking Apple TV, Warner Bros., and executive producer Bill Lawrence, she spoke highly of the writer’s room at Ted Lasso. Then she brought some fans to tears with her love for co-star Temple and her parents, who almost died during the pandemic.
“Juno Temple,” Waddingham screamed again. “I swear to God if I could break off one of her arms and give it to you because that’s who you are to me. There’s no Rebecca without Keely, and if you ever leave my life, I’m going to stalk you.”
