Netflix’s You fans convinced Guinevere Beck was destined to die after ‘control freak’ clue in pilot episode

NETFLIX'S You fans are convinced Guinevere Beck was destined to die after spotting a ‘control freak’ clue in the pilot episode.

The character – played by Elizabeth Lail – was the unsuspecting girlfriend of stalker Joe Goldberg in the show's first season.

While fans hoped she would somehow escape his clutches, Joe took his obsession with her to the point of murdering her.

Now one eagle-eyed viewer has spotted a major clue in the pilot episode that they believe revealed Beck's fate from the get-go.

Writing on Reddit, they said: "Beck’s fate was already sealed.

“She was already living on borrowed time. She would have died on those train tracks that night anyhow.

"Joe just wanted it all to be a matter of control ‘you die when I decide’ even if he wasn’t consciously making that decision.

“He manufactured her life, and ultimately, her death.”

Others agreed after watching the pilot, with a fellow fan writing: "I rewatched the pilot last night. You're right unfortunately."

Another reminded them Joe had said Beck was living on borrowed time, adding: "Joe definitely has an issue with controlling and that’s why he has to stalk and know where/when/what his ‘victims’ are doing so he can control the situation.”

Meanwhile, You's showrunner recently revealed the "stakes are high" for season three which has just had the green light.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, she said: "The stakes are pretty high.

"I have so many questions about [Joe's new girlfriend] Love’s mother who’s incredibly in the picture at the end of the season, like how much she really knows about her children.

"We wrote [the finale] hoping that we will get the opportunity to tell more story because we’re really excited with the seeds planted at the end of season two."

You series one and two is now available to watch on Netflix.
