Fans of the hit Spanish crime thriller are patiently waiting for the arrival of the fifth and final series on Netflix. The gang were last seen melting down the gold from the bank and know it’s their way out of the building. However, they are yet to learn just how it will help with their escape. Fans have been busy theorising over the escape and the method they will use to avoid capture.

Money Heist followed The Professor (played by Álvaro Morte) and his criminal team as they set out in an ambitious plan to escape the Royal Mint of Spain with €2.6billion.

The Bank of Spain later became their a target in an increasingly dangerous second heist as the team plan to steal gold and help rescue Rio (Miguel Herran).

But how will the team escape the bank as they are surrounded by police and the army?

As viewers wait to discover the fates of their favourite characters, fans are beginning to theorise how the gold will be used in the escape.

One fan on Reddit speculated: “They use automated weapons (think of the gun in final episode of Breaking Bad) on the roof of the Bank.

“[They are] shooting the pellets far and wide all over Madrid.

“Whether packed into bullets or otherwise. How they escape themselves I don’t know but probably related to chaos in everyone grabbing as many gold pellets as possible.”

However, another replied and quickly disagreed insisting the pellets would be smuggled into the bullets.

They said: “There is one little problem… These are bullets of gold.

“They would break every glass in Madrid and make a lot of collateral damage.

“Some character has mentioned that the golden bullets are their way out,” they concluded.

Another fan believes the gold would be difficult to smuggle out but the presence of a new character makes it highly likely the gold will be melted down for easier transport.

They said: “My theory is they’ll melt the gold and get it out through possibly the plumbing. Hence, the relevance of Bogota / the welder.

“There was also Palermo’s calculations on a black board on melting a huge amount of gold.”

Bogotá (Hovik Keuchkerian) joined the series in season three as a metallurgy expert so could his expertise aid in the final escape?

The two theories the gold will either be shot over the crowd or melted and sent through the plumbing seems to have some merit as more and more fans theorised the same thing.

In another thread on Reddit, someone else stated: “My theory is they will flush it with water since now it is in the shape of small pallets.”

However, another was quick to disagree, explaining there was an easier method of escape: “Rain gold among the crowds. Escape during the chaos.”

With many questions left unanswered, the final season has a lot to wrap up but the final season will, undoubtedly, deliver a thrilling end to the heist.

Money Heist seasons 1-4 are currently available to watch on Netflix. Season 5 will air in two parts on September 3 and December 3 respectively.
