Netflix UK has dropped side-splitting superhero comedy-drama Misfits. The show first aired back in 2011 on Channel 4’s E4 and spanned five seasons. The show is enjoying a new surge of popularity after coming to Netflix with viewers discovering the series for the first time.

The series turned its central cast into huge stars with Laura Socha winning a BAFTA Award for her performance as Kelly Bailey while the show bagged a gong for Best Drama series.

Misfits follows a bunch of teen delinquents carrying out community service for various anti-social behaviour and scrapes with the law.

On the first day of the community service, they were stuck by lighting in a freak accident and granted superpowers.

Each teen had a unique superpower relating to their personality and saw them developing as the show went on.

Simon Bellamy (played by Iwan Rheon) was the socially awkward teen of the group, who enjoyed watching Battlestar Galactica and listening to Echo and the Bunnymen.

He ended up doing community service after he got drunk and decided to burn down the house of a boy who bullied him.

However, he had a change of heart at the last minute and tried to put out the fire by urinating through the bully’s letterbox.

Unfortunately, Simon was caught by the boy’s mother and got in trouble with the police for his anti-social behaviour.

After getting hit by lighting, he was able to turn invisible and put his skills to good use.

While he was initially mocked by the others, he soon formed a firm friendship with them and was accepted.

As the show progressed, viewers discovered Simon was also the mysterious figure of Superhoodie, who was seen helping the gang from time to time.

Superhoodie saved Alisha Daniels (Antonia Thomas) and she learnt he was a future version of Simon who would try to save the world.

The pair got into a relationship until his death at which point Alisha had to help the current version of Simon to become his future self.

Simon’s journey on Misfits ended after he travelled through time to save Alisha after she was accidentally killed.

Speaking in 2011 about his decision to leave Misfits, Welsh actor Rheon posted on Facebook: “Thanks for all the comments and support.

“I’m so grateful for the opportunity that MisFits gave me and all the fun I had doing it.

“But I have left now and look forward to doing exciting new things. The show must go on! X.”

He also addressed his exit in 2012 to Red Carpet News, saying it was “quite weird” leaving Misfits behind.

Rheon said: “It’s exciting for me, I get to do other things. That was the idea because you’re tied up for so long and it was nice to have my whole year to try and fit things in.”

He continued: “The whole thing was amazing. I’ve made such great friends and we’re all like a little family now.”

Since leaving Misfits, Rheon went on to play the evil and barbaric Ramsay Bolton on Game of Thrones.

He also starred in the Marvel series Inhumans as well as Sky thriller Riviera.
