Lucifer season 6 ‘confirmed’ by crew member in Tom Ellis Instagram post

Devoted viewers of the fantasy crime series enjoyed a brief period of good news when Netflix took over after its cancellation from Fox. Although Lucifer has now been delayed yet again, rumours of an additional season seem to have been confirmed.

When Netflix decided to pick up the series from Fox, it was confirmed the fifth would act as Lucifer’s fifth and final season.

However, rumours were abound after the show remained a hit for the streaming platform that the series could continue producing new content now it had found another home.

Now, an intriguing post from a crew member on the set of the upcoming fifth season may have confirmed the much discussed rumours.

Assistant director Katrina Gould posted a chummy pic of herself with Lucifer Morningstar himself, Tom Ellis, looking as sharp as ever in a blue suit.

She captioned the picture by saying she regretted how production of the current season has ended for now, referencing the coronavirus pandemic forcing the filming of season five’s finale to shut down.

However, she continued: “It’s a bummer the world has gone crazy and we couldn’t end it the way it should’ve been ended, but there is always next season!”

Although she accompanied the caption with a winking emoji, indicating this isn’t 100% confirmed, it does seem things are looking good for a potential sixth season.

That is, once the world has made it through its unprecedented situation and production of fans’ favourite television series can resume once again.

Once the post began circulating around other social media, some fans were quick to jump aboard the hype train and hope for the best.

One fan said: “Once all the mayhem has settled & the world is safe again, on with season 6 then!”

The fifth season still has to undergo extensive editing and special effects work during the post-production stage.

Given that shooting for the finale was most likely left unfinished as well, fans could be looking at more than a year’s wait for new episodes.

Some were more level-headed, with one viewer commenting: “Whether the part about there always being next season was because she knows it’s happening for sure, or just a hopeful suggestion, I guess we’ll never know until cancellation/renewal becomes official.

Nothing is official yet, and amid the COVID-19 pandemic Lucifer fans may be living with uncertainty for some time.

Nonetheless, star of the show Tom Ellis had signed a contract indicating he would be willing to keep playing the character for additional seasons.

It’s now up to Netflix to decide if the show should continue following its highly anticipated fifth season.
