Love Island fans spot Millie and Liam’s mysterious link with Gavin and Stacey

Love Island'sMillie Court and Liam Reardon have a mysteriously strange thing in common with this hit BBC comedy show Gavin and Stacey.

The dating show finalists are romantically inclined but unfortunately for them, there is a bit of distance between them, just like the couple in Gavin and Stacey.

In the hit noughties series Gavin, from Billericay in Essex, falls in love with Stacey from Barry in South Wales.

In a plot similar to the comedy programme, Liam’s family expects him to up sticks and leave Merthyr Tydfil in Wales to join Millie, 200 miles away in Essex.

The couple have made things exclusive on the ITV2 dating show, and bricklayer Liam, 21, from South Wales has continued to confess his love for 24-year-old Millie from Essex as the episodes roll on.

Liam's sister Niamh, told the Mirror: “Good on him. Everyone is comparing their romance to Gavin and Stacey. I’d welcome her with open arms. She seems right up my street – proper chilled out and up for a laugh.”

After a long-distance relationship the comedy couple goes on to get married and have children – and Love Island fans expect Liam and Millie could do the same.

One fan took to Twitter to say: "One posted: “They are clearly going to win the show and get married.”

Another said: "3 days away from final and I’ve just realised Millie & Liam are basically real life Gavin & Stacey"

While another penned: "Millie & Liam are basically just Gavin & Stacey reversed lmao… #LoveIsland"

And a fourth wrote: "If Gavin & Stacey can make it work, so can Millie & Liam #LoveIsland"

The pair have confessed they are falling in love with each other and were voted the best-looking and most genuine couple by the public during last week's public vote.

During Sunday night's episode, the parents came into the villa to visit the couples and both sets of Millie and Liam's were thrilled with their choices.

But speaking to The Sun, Millie's mum Esme admitted the couple could struggle with the realities of a long-distance relationship.

She told the publication: "Long-distance relationships can be hard.

"He can move into my house and not have to pay rent," she said, "I really like him. I’m a good judge of character and I think he is a really nice guy and I think he is genuine. From what I’ve seen of him, he seems like a really sweet boy."

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV and ITV Hub.
