They say when it rains, it pours. For YouTuber, Jaclyn Hill, it seems to be a monsoon as of late. What should be the most exciting time of the influencer’s career is turning into a full-blown nightmare. Weeks ago, Hill launched her own makeup line, Jaclyn Hill cosmetics. This came nearly fours years after she announced plans for the launch to her millions of fans. While people were anxious to get their hands on her So Rich lipsticks, problems with the products began to roll in right away. Now fans are petitioning for a complete product recall.
Lipsticks
Many of HIll’s lipsticks sold out within mere minutes, so it didn’t take long for consumers to start receiving and reviewing their products. Unfortunately, the problems with the lipsticks became apparent immediately. Some reported that their lipstick had arrived damaged with lumpy textures, while others reported that the entire stick was crumbled and much thinner than depicted on the website. But that was just the tip of the iceberg.
The real problems emerged when consumers began to find particles embedded within the lipstick itself. Some fans reported a bumpy texture that was reminiscent of plastic and countless customers began to share pictures and videos of what appeared to be hair buried within the lipsticks. The hairs quickly caught the attention of Hill and her team and she placed the blame on shedding gloves that her quality control team was using at the factories. But, the problems didn’t end there.
Now fans are having allergic reactions to the lipsticks. Several people have reported swollen, puffy, lips and itchy bumps. Others have reported cold sores and extremely dry, red, lips. The worst cases have consumers taking antibiotics due to adverse reactions caused by the products. Though Hill has issued an apology for some of the issues and promised refunds to fans who received an imperfect product, fans are not appeased. As the cosmetics brand has yet to address the severity of the issues, now fans are demanding action in a more drastic way.
Petition
Three days ago, a petition was started to recall all Jaclyn Hill Cosmetics products. The petition highlights the many issues with the product and urges Jaclyn Hill Cosmetics and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to take action before people start getting sick. To date, the petition already has over 15,000 signatures, and that number is steadily climbing. The petition reads as follows:

“Jaclyn Hill Cosmetics recently launched and there have been huge issues with the product. When fans packages first started arriving they noticed there were many problems. The problems ranged from a simply melted and expired lipstick, to finding hair, fungus, and sharp pieces plastic in the product. Jaclyn Hill is claiming that the hair is from lab workers using fuzzy gloves but there is video proof proving otherwise.”
It then continues on to address health concerns, “Jaclyn cosmetics is a health hazard and needs to be recalled before people start getting sick. After countless complaints and a compiled number of photographic evidence, it is safe to say the chances of receiving a “normal” Jaclyn Hill Cosmetics So Rich Lipstick is incredibly slim. Action needs to be taken before someone is harmed by the unknown substance affecting the products. Since the company had yet to put out a statement recalling the product it is only right that we as consumers request that further investigation be done to ensure the safety of the product going forward.”
Health concerns
Unfortunately, it seems that health concerns are already occurring. One petition signer writes “I am on antibiotics because I am on chemo and have a fever of 102 since using her lipsticks.”The repercussions of fans who already have serious health concerns using these contaminated products could be very severe.
Radio silence
The severity of the situation continues to rise with each passing day, yet Hill and her team are still hesitant to address the growing concerns in an official statement. Let’s hope they do so sooner rather than later because if these issues continue to persist, they could have a full-blown lawsuit on their hands.
