WHILE actor Matt Damon has no plans to enter the political sphere, he has been outspoken about his affiliations and beliefs.
The Bourne Identity star actively speaks out about his presidential picks and who he wants to see in the White House.
Is Matt Damon a Democrat or a Republican?
Matt Damon is a member of the Democratic Party.
In January 2019, Damon sat down with CNBC's Tania Bryer to talk politics and presidential candidates.
The actor threw his support behind Biden, saying “There’s going to be a huge Democratic field. I love Joe Biden and especially now, particularly with our institutions under such attack."
“I think it would be a great signal to the world if we put somebody who was established and very stable and very wise back in charge.”
At the time, Biden had not announced his candidacy for 2020, but current vice president Kamala Harris has.
“In California, we have Kamala Harris, who I think is absolutely brilliant and I would love to someday see her be the president of the United States and if that happened in 2020 — I’d be very happy with that too," Damon said.
What has Damon said about Donald Trump?
While speaking at the World Economic Forum in 2018, Damon spoke about his thoughts on the then-president Donald Trump.
“First of all, I wish him well and we all must. A successful American president is good for all of us and we really have to be rooting for him right now,” Damon said.
“Obviously, it’s no secret that I didn’t vote for him. And yeah, I think there is a sense of we are heading into new territory here.
"He is obviously not a career politician, he has been very occupied with his own business interest, which are relatively narrow given the scope of what a president actually has to deal with, so I imagine he is really working hard right now to master so many sectors. He’s just got a lot of work cut out for him," he continued.
Damon was an outspoken supporter of Hillary Clinton's campaign, but Damon expressed hope that Trump would change while in office, especially regarding his rhetoric.
“A sentence from a president can move a market on the other side of the world and I think these guys become aware of that very quickly and you see them become very circumspect with how they speak and very measured, and I think we have to assume that will happen with him as well," he said.
