How Garth Brooks and Blake Shelton Reunited After 'The Voice' to Sing "Dive Bar" Together

Garth Brooks and Blake Shelton previously were on The Voice together in 2016. Now they’re reunited with the release of their duet, “Dive Bar.”

Brooks revealed that he reached out to Shelton to work together after watching him perform. Find out which performance inspired him and more about their collaboration.

Garth Brooks previously was a key advisor on The Voice

In Season 11 of The Voice, Garth Brooks came to help the top 12 performing contestants. The coaches that season also included Adam Levine, Miley Cyrus, and Alicia Keys. He talked about what it was like to work with the coaches.

“Working with Blake was pretty easy, just ’cause he’s [also] from Oklahoma,” he said according to Rare Country. He also revealed his strategy when it came to working with Levine.

“Adam seems real hip and cool, but Adam’s very old school,” the former advisor said. “The main thing was just listen to the advice he was giving ‘em, and then just pile on top of that.”

Brooks said he sometimes couldn’t tell his voice apart from Shelton’s

Their duet, “Dive Bar” was released on June 18. The song is all about getting lost in the weekend at a dive bar.

Brooks previously teased the upcoming song as a “summertime anthem.” The two also sound similar on the track.

“He was fun,” he told Entertainment Tonight. “He came to the studio and just did a good old summertime anthem. It’s called ‘Dive Bar’ and it just talks about spending your summers in the dive bars across America, and it’s going to be fun.”

Brooks revealed, “Sometimes I didn’t know if it was me or him, because we’re basically raised around the same area, so it was pretty cool.”

He also talked about doing a music video for it. “I think we have to [make a music video]!” he said. “I don’t know when the last time we did a country music video was, but you don’t want to pass this opportunity up. It’s going to be fun.”

Brooks said he asked Shelton to be on the song after he performed “God’s Country”

The country singer revealed that there was one performance that made him ask Shelton to work with him. Of course, he said yes.

“I was watching the ACMs this year, and there was one performance that really hit me hard: Blake Shelton’s “God’s Country.” I thought, ‘I’m feeling something here that’s drawing me right into this television.’ So I just reached out for him,” Brooks told Billboard.

“He was so sweet on the phone. The last thing I said was, ‘Hey, man, I don’t want to put you on the spot, but we got a song that might be a pretty cool duet.’”

The song is now available, but there will probably be a music video for it. It’s unknown when that would be released.

This also means that Brooks could appear on the upcoming season of The Voice. After all, the coaches have performed their latest hits on the show before so this could be another interesting performance.
