Hollyoaks summer preview: Maxine's funeral and Joel dies?

Hollyoaks is halfway through its six weeks of summer and so what better way to celebrate than some major spoilers? Yep we know, it does feel like Christmas has come early.

Coming up, Breda McQueen (Moya Brady) is planning her secret wedding to Jack Osborne (Jimmy McKenna), but is too distracted after discovering that someone is keeping a huge secret in her family.

After some digging, she finds out that it could be her precious Goldie McQueen (Chelsee Healey) who has sinned. Her suspicions are confirmed when she walks in on Goldie and priest Joel (Rory Douglas Speed) and being the twisted murderer that she is, she certainly can’t let it slide.

Rory Douglas Speed teased that Joel could soon find himself on Breda’s hit list, telling cameras: ‘This summer Breda finds out about Joel and Goldie and she’s not best pleased. Will Joel be Breda’s next victim?’ We suggest you flee the village as quick as humanly possible.

Meanwhile, Damon (Jacob Robert) fears for his wife Maxine Minniver (Nikki Sanderson) after she tells him that her tumour has grown. He wants to make her feel special in her final days so decides to throw her a ‘living funeral’ and invites all of Maxine’s friends and family to the event so they can share a few words of appreciation.

Little does he know that she’s been faking her illness for months…

‘Maxine is loving this,’ Jacob said in a teaser clip behind-the-scenes. ‘With it being such a beautiful evening, it all seems to end in tears.’ Will Maxine’s time finally run out?

Diane O’Connor (Alex Fletcher) is faced with a really difficult decision when she gets a call from her son, Finn (Keith Rice), who is wanting to see her.

Back in May it was revealed Finn would be returning with a bang and it all begins when he asks whether he can be re-housed away from the village. Diane is torn on whether to invite him back to live with her or to turn her back. Regardless of her decision, we’re certain there’ll be dire consequences either way.

Elsewhere, Darren Osborne (Ashley Taylor Dawson) notices that Ollie Morgan (Aedan Duckworth) hasn’t been spending much time with baby DJ, so he decides to encourage them to bond.

This could have disastrous consequences though as the more Ollie bonds with DJ, the harder it becomes to lie to everyone about who his real father is.

Will the teen let slip that Luke Morgan (Gary Lucy) is actually DJ’s dad?

It looks like there could also be another affair on the horizon as fireworks begin to spark between Sylver McQueen (David Tag) and Grace Black (Tamara Wall).

A romance begins to blossom when Sylver helps Grace out with her recovery and physio-therapy and encourages her to take her first steps.

Grace manages to do so and the pair celebrates and end up locking lips. What will this mean for his relationship with Mercedes McQueen (Jennifer Metcalfe) and more importantly, what will mummy Breda have to say?

On that note, Breda has some worrying words that could foreshadow even more drama ahead.

‘For the evildoer has no future hope; and the lamp of the wicked will be snuffed out…’ she says.

Hollyoaks airs weekdays at 6pm on Channel 4 with First Look Hollyoaks airing at 7.30pm on E4.
