Emmerdale fans were left stunned on Thursday's episode as Arthur Thomas returned to the village.
Soap watchers were left distracted over the scenes as they claimed Arthur, who is played by Alfie Clarke, looked "unrecognisable" with viewers even questioning if it was the same actor as he looked so "grown up".
Arthur was last seen on the ITV soap in February but the character made a return on Thursday's episode to help Liam Cavanagh with his allotment in memory of his late daughter Leanna.
Taking to Twitter, soap watchers claimed that they had to "rewind the scenes" as they didn't recognise Arthur.
One person said: "#Emmerdale oh my goodness what happened to Arthur! I had to rewind that it was the same actor."
Another viewer commented: "Woah, Arthur looks so much older! Didn't think he'd been away that long! #Emmerdale."
A different fan pointed out: "Is Arthur acted by same actor? Looks grown up? #emmerdale @emmerdale."
While another soap watcher added: "How much has Arthur grown up! #Emmerdale."
Alfie, 13, has played the role of Arthur on the ITV soap since 2009.
Meanwhile, that wasn't the only surprise return for fans as during Thursday's episode Jamie Tate was confirmed as alive as he made an explosive return after the village had feared he was dead following a car crash earlier this year.

The scenes – in which little Millie Tate (Willow Bell) and Jamie were reunited – were both sinister and sweet. The father-daughter duo were bought together by newcomer Granny Hazel ( Kate Anthony ), who fans recognise from Coronation Street, after she and Jamie had been cooking up the plan behind Kim's ( Claire King ) back all along.
There had been speculation around whether or not the vet was still alive after he crashed his car into a lake in soap-tastic style earlier this year. Fans also had their suspicions that Jamie never actually died in the accident, with their theory confirmed on Thursday.
Emmerdale continues on weekdays at 7pm on ITV.
