'Emily in Paris' Season 3 Will Happen If Lily Collins Gets Her Way

Just in time for another much-needed round of escapism, Emily in Paris is back for a second season. Once again, viewers will get to traipse through France with Emily (Lily Collins) as she navigates her messy love life, dramatic work life, and comically inexplicable Instagram success. (Plus, we get to take in the hats. So many hats.) But, with the new season dropping all at once on Netflix, there’s no doubt that there will be a question on the minds of everyone once they make it to the end: Will Emily in Paris return for season 3?

Nothing’s been confirmed yet.

When Emily in Paris was renewed for a second season in November 2020, it was picked up for only a second season — no multi-season deal here. So, while Emily in Paris could have a third season, it hasn’t been confirmed by Netflix yet.

That said, it does seem likely. The first season of Emily in Paris was hugely successful and became the biggest Netflix comedy of last year. If the second season performs that well, there’s a good chance Emily and all her Parisian buddies will be back again.

The renewal news could happen soon.

Emily in Paris was renewed for a second season only a month after the first season was released. So, if the second season does well, the season 3 news could be coming right up.

Netflix announced the second season by issuing a faux letter from Emily’s French boss Sylvie (Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu) written to Emily’s company in America.

“We are writing to regrettably inform you that Emily Cooper will need to remain in Paris for an extended period of time,” the letter reads. “Despite her overconfident manner and lack of prior experience in luxury goods marketing, she has nonetheless managed to charm some of our hard-to-impress clients during her short time at Savoir.”

Expect another untraditional announcement if the show is renewed again.

Lily Collins is hopeful.

In August when Emily in Paris wrapped filming for season 2, Collins posted some photos from her time in Paris on Instagram along with a caption that expresses her hopes for a third season.

“I’m leaving here filled with so many amazing memories, special moments with my family, endless appreciation to our incredible dedicated and talented crew, and another season officially wrapped! Very excited to share it with you all soon,” she wrote. “We’re heading home, but keeping a little piece of us here until the next time…”

See? “Until next time…”

Collins also mentioned the idea of a third season in a recent interview with Glamour. “I really hope people laugh and smile and get to have the same feelings of escapism and fun that they did the first season,” she said. “I hope viewers find more of themselves in different characters, and feel seen and represented in the show. And I hope that we get a season three, because I really hope we get to come back and do this again”

There’s a lot more to explore.

Series creator Darren Star has also not confirmed a third season, but his interviews about season 2 show how much more there is for the show to explore. “Emily will embrace the city a little bit more,” he told Variety. “When she got there, she got a bit of a free pass in the beginning and I don’t think it will be quite as easy for her in second season. I think she will be more assimilated, in terms of living in Paris and stepping up to the challenges of learning the language.”

There’s also other characters to look into. “We wanted all the other characters in the show to have bigger storylines, and hired incredible actors as new characters,” Collins told Entertainment Weekly. For instance, Mindy (Ashley Park) is shown in season 2 embarking on her singing career.

But, regardless of what happens on the show plot-wise, fans will surely want the show to come back once again for the gorgeous locations, over-the-top fashion, and simply how easy it is to watch. Does it really make sense that Emily’s company would leave her in Paris so long? Who cares! Maybe in season 7, she takes over the business.
