Doctor Amir Khan has blasted Downing Street for hosting a party during last year’s Coronavirus lockdown on the justification that staff had been working hard during the pandemic. Dr Khan told Lorraine that the excuse “did not wash” as NHS staff had been working hard too without any breaks or opportunities to gather together.
Dr Khan told Lorraine: “The NHS, frontline workers, people who are delivering food to people, all of those people who kept the country going and the economy going through that really tough time in the pandemic, were working exceptionally hard.
“I know many hospitals do even have common rooms where work because and go and just take a break from frontline work or hospitals don’t have gardens where they can go outdoors and many people come home to one-bedroom flats and can’t go outdoors as well.
“So that excuse just doesn’t wash with me at all.”
It comes as ITV reported that Boris Johnson and his partner Carrie were among those who gathered with about 40 staff in the garden of Downing Street on May 20, 2020.
