A CAA representative confirmed David passed away on October 29 following complications resulting from a stroke.

The cast immediately paid tribute to him, with actor Michael Rainey Jr – who plays Tariq in Power and its spin-off Power Book II: Ghost, writing on Instagram alongside a picture of David: "“Rest in peace & god bless your family."

Joseph Sikora, who plays Tommy Egan, shared a picture of himself with David and wrote: "'The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart.' Go quickly to the Lord my friend.

"Thank you for your guidance and kindness. There is a light out in the Bronx and certainly in the world. God bless you David."

I am absolutely devistated to learn of the passing of @directordavidrodriguez y'all may not know him, but he directed the 1st episode of Power Season 6, and was the first time I met him. I remember how much fun we had on set, and how open and willing he was to us being ourselves and loose on set. I would DM him to ask advice or see what's up and he was always dope to chat with. My condolences to his family and all his friends. 💔

Meanwhile Avery Mason, who played Tommy’s henchman Black Grimace, wrote a touching tribute of his own alongside a picture of David with some of the cast on set.

He said: "I am absolutely devastated to learn of the passing of [David Rodriguez]. Y'all may not know him, but he directed the 1st episode of Power Season 6, and was the first time I met him.

As well as his work on Power, David directed episodes of Chicago P.D. and Queen of the South, and was also at the helm of two episodes for brand new mystery series, Hightown.

Power ended with Tariq being revealed as the person who shot his father, James 'Ghost' St. Patrick, played by Omari Hardwick.

Tariq is now the focus of the first spin-off series, while three others are in the works with show runner Courtney Kemp.

Power is available on Netflix.
