Dancing On Ice has reportedly been cancelled for one weekend, following a slew of unexpected exits.

ITV will pause the production for one week in order to give the contestants the opportunity to "recharge" before returning to the competition.

The news comes after four celeb contestants dropped out of the series completely, and Jason Donovan stepped down from last weekend's production due to injury.

An ITV spokesperson said: "ITV have taken the decision to pause Dancing on Ice this week and there will be no live show on Sunday 21st February.

"Each week our production team and cast have delivered a fantastic show during incredibly challenging times.

"The welfare of all of those involved is important to us and we felt it prudent to take a week’s break at this juncture."

The statement proceeded to assure viewers the production would go ahead later in the month, returning with another dazzling live show.

It went on: "Continuing to make the best TV for our viewers is of paramount importance to us and we look forward to resuming the competition next week, with the show back live on Sunday 28th February."

Dancing On Ice fans were shaken to learn Emmerdale actor Joe-Warren Plant was the latest celeb to exit the competition last Friday, having tested positive for coronavirus.

The soap star, and his professional skate partner Vanessa Bauer, were forced to isolate after receiving the test result, meaning they were forced to drop out of the series.

A week previously, comedian Rufus Hound similarly tested positive for Covid, and was replaced by stand-up Matt Richardson in the competition.

That same week, TOWIE star Billie Shepherd announced she was leaving the series, having suffered a serious concussion while training on the ice.

And, in the early days of the competition, Denise Van Outen stepped down when a serious shoulder injury left her unable to perform.
