Coronation Street’s Simon Barlow star Alex Bain rushed to A&E after hurting ankle

Coronation Street star Alex Bain was rushed to hospital over the weekend after hurting his ankle.

The actor, 20, who plays Simon Barlow, took to Instagram to share a now-deleted picture of himself at Blackburn Hospital's A&E department.

Alex explained to concerned fans that he had hurt his ankle, he penned: "Not where I expected to end up tonight" followed with a laughing emoji.

He added: "Don't worry guys it's just my ankle!" followed with a smiling emoji.

Alex also took to Instagram on Monday to share updates of his injury, revealing that he was jetting off on holiday from Manchester Airport.


Posting a selfie, he penned: "Time to see if I've still got my flight legs or something like that!"

While a different update showed the actor in a wheelchair at the airport as he also shared a picture of his ankle in a leg brace.

He wrote: "Got a fancy new set of wheels! Thank you to the helpful people at Manchester Airport!"

Later in the day, Alex revealed he had safely landed in Frankfurt, Germany, and that he still had a second flight to catch.

It comes after Alex was seen enjoying an evening out with girlfriend Mollie Lockwood in April during a rare appearance together.

The actor was pictured with his girlfriend as they attended the press night of the Addams Family at the Opera House Theatre in Manchester.

Alex and Mollie went public with their relationship on Instagram in December 2019, months after they began dating following the actor’s break-up with childhood sweetheart Levi Selby with whom he shares a daughter.

The couple met while Alex had been working his second job as a choreographer and have continued to post themselves loved up together in photos shared on social media.

Alex welcomed his first child, a daughter named Lydia-Rose, aged just 17 after taking his GCSE exams.

Despite his baby arriving at one of the more stressful times in his life, Alex insisted that he “wouldn’t have had it any other way” as he discussed being a father in a recent interview.

"I adore having a child, I really do, and I wouldn't have it any other way. But don't get me wrong, she runs me ragged!" the actor told The Mirror.
