Coronation Street’s Gail Platt leaves Weatherfield and hints she will return with a new husband

CORONATION Street has hinted that Gail Platt will return from Thailand with a new husband – after going for an extended holiday.

In tonight’s episode Gail – who is played by actress Helen Worth in the ITV soap – left Weatherfield after her recent heart attack.

She decided to go back to Thailand for a relaxing extended break – and the Platts assembled to say goodbye to her.

Shona and David both jokingly begged her not to cop off with a toyboy and bring him home.

And while Gail promised she wouldn’t – there was a hint of mischief in her voice.

However the scene has hinted that a previously scrapped storyline of Gail returning with a new husband could be being revisited.

Back in 2019 when Gail first disappeared to find herself in Thailand the original plan was for her to return with a new husband.

But at the time bosses decided against it.

Executive producer Iain MacLeod teased how her husband would be evil enough to rival her former lover Richard Hillman.

Her third husband Richard is one of the soap's most dastardly ever villains, murdering his way through the cobbles in his time.

Iain previously told The Sun: “There was originally a story on the table where she [returned with an evil husband].

"But we moved away from that in the end, just because we don't want Gail to get together with another serial killer!

“And if we were going to do it, we'd want to do it on screen rather than off screen!

"So no, she hasn't. She's just had a zen-like epiphany. But it won't turn into a pastiche of a hippy lifestyle – she's still Gail."
