Bridgerton: Netflix announce second season of hit show
Bridgerton season two is on the way to Netflix and Lady Whistledown (voiced by Julie Andrews) announced it will focus on eldest sibling Anthony (Jonathan Bailey). The series is based on the Julia Quinn books and in the source material Anthony falls in love with Kate Sheffield. A book clue has revealed Anthony’s younger brother Colin (Luke Newton) will play a huge role in the matchmaking process.
Will Colin have a major role in Anthony’s relationship?
Bridgerton is a scandalous romance drama series which held the number one spot in the Netflix top 10 for a long run.
The Shonda Rhimes-produced series follows the affluent Bridgerton family, who live in Mayfair during the Regency period.
Daphne Bridgerton (Phoebe Dynevor) was the main focus of the first season as she found love with the Duke of Hastings (Regé-Jean Page).
However, in the upcoming season, the focus will shift away from Daphne and the Duke and will instead put Anthony in the spotlight.
His love story is taken from the book The Viscount Who Loved Me, and it tells of how Anthony had found himself a wife.

The one thing standing in the way of their marriage was his wife-to-be’s older sister – Kate Sheffield.
Kate was determined to prevent the wedding and protect her sister, but she ended up falling for Anthony herself.
Fans took to Reddit to discuss Colin’s role in their relationship as his character is portrayed differently in the books.
Diemaddad said: “I love sweet, sensitive Colin on TV. But now I’m reading the books and I really like the mischievous, ‘trickster’ like personality he has in the books.
“And I worry about how they’ll portray that in the series. Is he supposed to come back from ‘going abroad’ and now he’s all witty and daring and debonair?? Is he even going to be in Season 2?!? He’s got some great scenes in the book, extremely plot relevant too so I really hope so [sic].”
Classylikenuggets explained how Colin will return as he played a vital role in setting up Kate and Anthony’s relationship.
They said: “I definitely feel like we’re gonna see more of Book Colin in s2, he was the OG Kate x Anthony shipper and basically set them up.
“I feel as if that scene would be important for the series cause that moment is when Kate and Anthony enemies to lovers story begins [sic].”
Some fans believe Colin was portrayed as “sweet” in the series so the audience could easily differentiate the Bridgerton brothers.
ChrisEvansFan said: “After his trip abroad he would have gained confidence and be the Colin we know.

“I really hope it will be him who tries to trick Anthony and Kate. One of my favourite scenes!”
When viewers last saw Colin, he had said goodbye to Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) who was still deeply in love with him.
He had always wanted to travel the world and said Penelope had inspired him to take the leap and explore beyond London.
Fans were worried he had left the series for good, but hopefully, he will return to set Anthony and Kate up for a romance.
They are still rooting for the Penelope and Colin relationship, with one saying on Twitter: “The relationship I need to happen!!! Team Penelope and Colin.”
Another said: “Finally finished #Bridgerton. Really liked it! Everyone seems to be drooling over the Duke, but I very much prefer Anthony, Benedict and Colin.
“Also, I’m looking forward to more Colin/Penelope and to the love story for Anthony in Season 2.”
Back in January 2021, Netflix announced Brigderton had smashed viewership records to become the streaming service’s biggest series of all time.
