The CBS drama last returned for a new episode earlier this month, but fans will be disappointed to learn the Reagans won’t be back until the start of 2022. After the thrilling return of Doctor Who star Alex Kingston as Sloane Thompson, viewers are more eager than ever to catch up with Blue Bloods in the new year.

Unfortunately, there is still a wait of more than two weeks until the successful crime series is back on screens.

Season 12 of Blue Bloods went on its Christmas hiatus almost a fortnight ago, with the latest episode, Firewall, airing Friday, December 10.

This case saw Sloane return to the field when a cyber-attack threatens the NYPD.

Danny Reagan (played by Donnie Wahlberg) and Maria Baez (Marisa Ramirez) assisted the British Commander in tracking down an elusive suspect.

Meanwhile, Erin’s (Bridget Moynahan) potential career in politics may have come to a screeching halt as she questions her campaign for office.

With things heating up for the Reagans in the middle of Blue Bloods’ 12th season, the series has once again been hit with a frustrating delay.

Fans will have been waiting for nearly a whole month before the drama returns to CBS.

Thankfully, there is no shortage of Blue Bloods content to look forward to when the network finally starts airing new episodes.

The series will kick off again with a flying start, with Old Friends coming January 7 followed by another instalment the following Friday, On The Arm.

It’s hoped the series can carry on this momentum throughout the new year.

However, viewers are still unsure how long the current outing will continue following the reduced, 16-episode instalment last year.

Normally comprised of 22 episodes, the series has had to trim its recent runs somewhat due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Even so, Blue Bloods has remained as popular as ever, with the latest season pulling in around six million viewers for each episode.

During the long wait for more, fans have been given some sneak peeks at what’s to come in episode 10.

One image features Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny enjoying a laugh during what appears to be a family dinner.

Plus, Danny’s brother Jamie (Will Estes) and wife Eddie (Vanessa Ray) also seem cheerful at the same dinner.

Could the Reagans finally be enjoying some downtime after the trying events of the last season?

With a family secret still hanging over Jamie’s shoulders, the next episodes of Blue Bloods are still expected to be fraught with tension when it returns after Christmas.

There’s currently no new footage for episode 10, but hopefully, CBS will be releasing more details closer to the midseason premiere.

Blue Bloods season 12 continues Friday, January 7 2022 on CBS.
