Captain Sandy Yawn from Below Deck Mediterranean is seen handling a number of challenging situations. From rough seas to a mouthy crew, Yawn is the problem solver on board.
But in an upcoming episode Yawn seems to be experiencing somewhat of her own version of Groundhog Day. She’s endlessly fought with Sirocco’s anchor and now she seems to be dealing with the chef issue again too.
Yawn had to fire the previous chef because she struggled hard to prepare acceptable meals for charter guests. When Yawn discovered that the chef was rolling out meals made from boxed ingredients, plus her friends were served “slimy” fish, she had to cut the chef loose. Is she going to have to make that call again?
Be our guest?
Bravo shared a clip of an upcoming episode that showed some cracks in service on charter. As chief stew Hannah Ferrier is pouring drinks during breakfast service, Chef Anastasia Surmava is serving breakfast.
Surmava places a large platter with eggs benedict on the table and returns to the galley kitchen. As she leaves, one of the guests starts passing the platter and serving his friends.
When Surmava returns with more food, she asks the guests if they’d like anything in addition to eggs benedict. The guests request perhaps some potatoes. “I can whip them up but it’s going to take like 10 to 15 minutes,” she tells the guests.
Anastasia, we have a problem
As Surmava returns to the kitchen to make the potatoes, Yawn lets the guests know they can order any kind of eggs they desire. The guests graciously joke with Yawn. “We just found that out,” one guest says. Another guest jokes, “Something I could have learned three days ago!”
But for Yawn, this was no joking matter. She returns to the kitchen to ask if the guests ordered eggs that way. But she’s met with Surmava telling her the guests were told they could order whatever they wanted.
“They’ve been told,” Yawn queries. “It’s like no, we don’t tell them. We ask them. This is a huge problem for me.” Yawn then tells Surmava to wear her chef’s jacket, which Surmava insists is dirty. Surmava delivers the potatoes to the guests. When they ask what is for lunch she jokes, “A big kick in the ass.”
Problems may be bigger than a breakfast order
While ensuring the guests get what they want is on Yawn’s radar, the quality of food may also start to haunt her. In another clip, the guests tell Yawn the food on Sirocco isn’t five-star.
Before the guests depart, Yawn asks how the guests enjoyed the trip. One guest says he’s going to speak with candor as he’s been yachting in the past. He says while the food was good, it wasn’t five star. “I was just surprised at that,” the guest says.
Yawn wants to know if it was the quality of the food. The guest says, “I have to eat food hot if not I won’t eat it.” Another guest says that on a yacht this big, their expectations were a little higher. “I was expecting five star, this is not five star,” another guest pipes in.
