7 clues, hints and questions after Part 4 and 5 of Emmerdale's survival week

Emmerdales third and fourth survival outings were jaw-droppingly tense, chillingly horrifying, and utterly heartbreaking all at the same time, making them the strongest instalments of the week thus far.

Picking up from where Wednesday’s cliffhanger left off, Thursday’s (October 21) double-bill saw Andrea Tate (Anna Nightingale) fight with all of her might to evade the clutches of evil Meena Jutla (Paige Sandhu).

A tense chase through the maze provided for captivating viewing, not to mention some stunning direction and cinematography, but the subsequent showdown set the maze alight – quite literally – in shocking scenes that seemingly proved fatal.

All of the ITV soap’s survival week narratives came together during the two instalments, with Priya Kotecha (Fiona Wade), Ellis Chapman (Aaron Anthony) and Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) all finding themselves trapped on the burning maze for one reason or another.

A number of HUGE developments took place, including Andrea’s perhaps fatal injury, as well as Priya’s ordeal, after she seemingly suffered bad burns amid the blaze.

It was a truly epic double-bill, and while there were some hints and clues to find, these two episodes mostly just left us with a LOT of questions, which we’re going to need answered immediately!

With one edition of survival week left, it’s likely that there’s much more drama to come, but ahead of Friday’s outing, here’s everything Metro.co.uk noticed tonight.

Is Andrea dead?

The biggest and most important question of all, without a doubt, is on the subject of Andrea’s fate.

Has she perished in the maze?

The wedding planner put up a good fight against evil Meena, doing all she could to survive, running through the maze and evading the serial killer’s grasp at every given opportunity.

Meena, however, came out of the dual victorious, as she banged Andrea’s skull of the wooden steps, before leaving her to die at the centre of the maze, which had ignited.

Even with an open head wound following her blow to the head, Andrea fought against death, clinging to life as she reached for the nearby radio device, hoping that Ellis Chapman would hear her cries for help.

But unfortunately, it was not to be.

Andrea was last seen in the maze unconscious, with thick smoke hiding her from sight. Meena, meanwhile, managed to make it to safety courtesy of Mackenzie, and told the rescue team that there was nobody else left inside the fiery blaze.

It’s certainly not looking good, that’s for sure.

Andrea, as a character, is riddled with potential, and star Anna Nightingale is nothing short of sublime – all of the time, that is, although especially here. If this is her end then Emmerdale will certainly miss her, as will we.

Meena’s little trophy

By now, it’s a well-documented fact that Meena likes to procure a memento – or a trophy, if you will – belonging to her victims. In a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, she stole Andrea’s bracelet, which was gifted to her by daughter Millie.

While Andrea’s fate remains unknown, it’s possible that Meena’s theft could come back to bite her, as it’s something tying her to Andrea and the maze incident as a whole.

Will Victoria pull through?

Victoria Barton was rescued during the previous episode by Billy Fletcher, much to Meena’s dismay. She was subsequently taken to hospital, and David Metcalfe has since remained by her side every step of the way.

However, Vic’s condition worsened during Thursday’s double-bill, with the doctors revealing that they’re worried she’s suffering from secondary drowning.

Will she be okay? Or will she die?

Is Priya going to be okay?

Priya headed into the maze to place the bottle of champagne at the centre for the winner, but she soon set her sights on the smoke and thus made a run for it.

But much like everybody else, she couldn’t find the way out. Ellis, meanwhile, headed in to rescue her, and he ultimately did just that, but not before a flaming scarecrow fell on top of her.

Priya screamed in agony, as Ellis tended to the flames, but it looked like she suffered some severe burns. Will she be okay?

How will Ryan react to Charity and Mack’s passion?

Charity Dingle said some pretty hurtful stuff to Mackenzie in the wake of his admission of feelings for her. She claimed that he means nothing to her, and that if he disappeared of the face of the earth, she wouldn’t care.

But her reaction to discovering that Mack’s life was on the line inside the burning maze said otherwise, especially when she came to realise that he’d gone in with the intention of saving her!

Mackenzie ultimately emerged from the smoke, having saved Meena, and – in emotional scenes – Charity passionately kissed him, revealing that she no longer cares if anyone knows about their romance.

Yes, Charity has made her feelings for Mackenzie known. The question is, however, just how will Ryan Stocks react to the news of their relationship? He was very specific in not wanting them together, so it’s safe to assume that he’ll be upset.

Marlon accomplished his goal, proving his bravery

Marlon told Paddy several episodes ago that he wanted nothing more than to prove himself to April, showing to her that he’s capable of being brave – and that he’s able to truly accomplish something.

After assisting Manpreet and Paddy in saving Charles, it’s safe to say that he not only understood the assignment, he aced it!

You’re a superhero, Marlon! Though, to us, you’ve always been one.

American Pie

Emmerdale has expertly utilised incidental music throughout much of its survival week, and Thursday’s double episode was no different, culminating with an emotional and heartfelt melody that went hand-in-hand with Mack and Charity’s embrace.

For those of you who maybe didn’t notice, the instrumental track was actually American Pie, which you might recall was used both in last Friday’s (October 15) and Monday’s (October 18) editions of the serial drama.

A proper full-circle moment.

Emmerdale continues Friday October 22 at 7pm on ITV.
