Mickey Guyton’s Cardi B Impression At The ACMs Has Twitter Talking

On April 18, 2021, the 2021 Academy of Country Music Awards was hosted virtually and in-person. Mickey Guyton slayed as the ACM co-host, and her Cardi B impression has Twitter talking! Judging by social media reactions, fans are loving Guyton and Keith Urban as ACM hosts.

Guyton has been on the edges of country music stardom for years, but 2020 was the year she became a bonafide country music star. According to CNN, Guyton’s song “Black Like Me” was a unique country hit because it “flipped good ol’ boy patriotism of country music on its side and forced listeners to consider a different perspective.”

Guyton told CNN that her husband encouraged her to record “Black Like Me.” She did not think the song would breakthrough, but Guyton told the news network, “He said even if something never happens to you, you’re opening the door for other people of color who might be passionate about country music.” The country star is probably happy she took her hubby’s advice, as she was nominated for a Grammy for the song, which was a huge hit!

But Guyton’s talents do not stop there. Keep reading to learn more about Guyton and her Cardi B impression!

Mickey Guyton's talent brings more people to country music

ACM host Mickey Guyton got rave reviews for her award show gig, but Twitter is digging Guyton’s Cardi B impression. While introducing Miranda Lambert, Guyton threw in Cardi B’s signature phrase, “okurrr,” and the internet lit up with delight. CNN Political commentator David Swerdlick tweeted, “Is it me, or did Mickey Guyton just hit a Cardi B ‘okurrr’?” Then Twitter user @MsJennySharie83 tweeted, “Yes girl! Okurrr! Love it! I can’t do it & you did it the first time @MickeyGuyton.”

Twitter user @DCGirl627 wrote, “I’m pretty sure Mikey Guyton doing @iamcardib ‘okurrr’ at the #CMA was a country music first but I’m here for it!” We hear you, @DCGirl627, and we know you meant to tweet #ACMs!

A Cardi B impression is fun, but it’s a little act that will bring more people into the country music tent. Texas TV producer Ellie Holmes summed it up best with her tweet: “@MickeyGuyton bringing OKURRR to the #ACMAwards is what america needs.” We agree and we need more Mickey Guyton in our lives STAT.
