Kanye West starts college fund for George Floyd's daughter and donates $2million

Kanye West has donated $2million (£1,580,000) to the families of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor – including a full college tuition account for Floyd’s 6-year-old daughter.

The Ultralight Beam singer has set up a series of accounts to help cover the legal fees for the Arbery and Taylor families, fighting for justice for their lost loved ones.

He has also ensured that Gianna, the daughter of George Floyd, is fully covered when it comes to her future schooling and tuition fees, setting up a 529 education plan in her name,  CNN reports.

Kanye’s team have confirmed he has also made donations to a series of black businesses in Chicago to help keep them afloat during this time of crisis.

Breonna Taylor was shot eight times and killed in Louisville, Kentucky this March when police entered her home without prior warning. She was 26 years old.

The family is now filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the policeman involved, who have been placed on administrative leave following the incident.

Ahmaud Arbery was jogging when he was filmed being chased and shot at by two men, killing him in the middle of the street in February. He was 25 and unarmed.

Arbery’s death was filmed by a passerby, with the footage later going viral.

Today (Wednesday 3 June) marked the memorial of George Floyd, whose death sparked riots and protests across the world.

Floyd died in May after a policeman, identified as Derek Chauvin, pinned the unarmed black man to the floor, and while he was handcuffed, kneed on his neck for nine minutes, causing him to struggle to breathe.

Chauvin, and the three policemen that were present at the scene at the time of the incident, have now all been arrested in connection with Floyd’s death and he is awaiting trial.
