Halsey Releases New Trailer for 'If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power'

Halsey is set to drop her fourth studio album If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power on Aug. 27. The album release will also be accompanied with an IMAX film of the same name. On July 29, Halsey shared a new trailer for the If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power film. The trailer revealed new visuals from the movie and previewed a song from the album called “woman/god.”

Halsey will release an album and movie called ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’

If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power will be Halsey’s fourth studio album and follows her most recent album Manic. The record is produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, and it will follow Halsey’s experience with pregnancy and motherhood.

In an Instagram post, the singer-songwriter shared more about the concept of the album, writing:

“If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power

This album is a concept album about the joys and horrors of pregnancy and childbirth. It was very important to me that the cover art conveyed the sentiment of my journey over the past few months. The dichotomy of the Madonna and the Whore. The idea that me as a sexual being and my body as a vessel and gift to my child are two concepts that can co-exist peacefully and powerfully. My body has belonged to the world in many different ways the past few years, and this image is my means of reclaiming my autonomy and establishing my pride and strength as a life force for my human being.

This cover image celebrates pregnant and postpartum bodies as something beautiful, to be admired. We have a long way to go with eradicating the social stigma around bodies & breastfeeding. I hope this can be a step in the right direction!”

The ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’ trailer previewed a new song

Leading up to the release of the movie, Halsey shared a new trailer for the film. The trailer included lyrics from a song called “woman/god,” giving fans more insight into what the album will sound like.

Based on the trailer, some of the lyrics for “woman/god” are:

“I am not a woman, I’m a god / I am not a martyr, I’m a problem / I am not a legеnd, I’m a fraud / If you have to say it, well you’ve got one / I am not a woman, I’m a god / I am not a martyr, I’m a problem / I am not a legend, I’m a fraud / If you have to say it, well you’ve got one.”

Halsey included another song in the first trailer for ‘If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power’

The first trailer for If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power was shared online on July 13. In the trailer, fans hear the same song from the album’s announcement video, which features the repeated lyric, “All of this is temporary.” With its intense visuals, the trailer for If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power reveals that the movie will be a horror film.

“This film is about the lifelong social labyrinth of sexuality and birth,” reads the text at the beginning of the trailer. “The greatest horror stories never told were buried with the bodies of those who died in that labyrinth.”

Fans will be able to watch If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power in IMAX starting on Aug. 25.
