James Bond is currently being played by Daniel Craig, the longest-serving 007 so far. However, he is expected to walk away from the role, and fans have been trying to guess who will take over. But will Daniel actually end up staying on for another film after all the speculation?
It is believed Daniel Craig will not continue in the role for another film, after the upcoming No Time to Die.
Before he made that announcement known, his co-star, Naomie Harris, suggested there is no telling whether Daniel will actually exit the role.
Speaking in May 2019, Naomie told The Independent: “Well the thing is that everyone is assuming this is his last film.
“Daniel has never said that, so we don’t know. It’s still open – who knows?
“Genuinely I think he doesn’t know. Nobody does. It depends on this film and if people turn out and are like, ‘We want Daniel’ – which I think they will – then he may well be back for another one.
“I started with Daniel so all I’ve ever known is Daniel. I know he’s amazing to work with, I love working opposite him, so I want him. I can’t really think of anyone else.”
But Daniel’s fans will be devastated to hear in January 2020, the star confirmed No Time to Die would be his final movie, saying: “This is going to be my last James Bond adventure. This is it – it’s over.”
Fans have heard this before, so while it is likely a new actor will need to be found, it is never completely certain Daniel has exited the role until the new person is announced.
In fact, fans have been betting on the idea of Daniel keeping his role, and hope he holds on for one more film.
According to Ladbrokes, the odds are currently at 10/1 for Daniel to remain in the role.
Alex Apati of Ladbrokes said: “We’re eagerly waiting for an announcement on who’ll play Bond next, but we may have to wonder a little while longer with Daniel Craig potentially sticking around for at least one more movie.”
Despite Daniel remaining in the betting, there are now other names who have overtaken him as the most likely person to take on the role.
Bridgerton’s Rege-Jean Page has been in the running as well and is currently sitting at 5/1 odds with the bookmakers.
As well as Rege-Jean, some are expecting a woman to take on the role, with names like Lashana Lynch, Olivia Colman and Jodie Comer in the mix.
Other men are topping the list, however, with Tom Hardy, James Norton and Idris Elba being named as potentials who could take over the role.
Of course, Daniel brought a specific action charm to the role, which could continue, depending on what direction the franchise will go.
A comical Bond may be what will come next, though at present there have been few comedy actors in the odds.
However, if the action realism continues, it could be a whole host of stars who will take on the role.
No Time to Die is out on October 8
*Odds correct as of February 13
