'It's time for a woman to play Bond' – Pierce Brosnan

Pierce Brosnan believes it is time for a woman to play the 007 role in the James Bond franchise.

The former Bond was speaking ahead of Daniel Craig’s appearance in the 25th 007 adventure, No Time To Die.

Speaking to the Hollywood Reporter, Brosnan said:”I think we’ve watched the guys do it for the last 40 years, get out of the way, guys, and put a woman up there!

Brosnan who played Bond in four films added: “I think it would be exhilarating, it would be exciting.”

Rumors that Bond could be played by a woman have been doing the rounds. Most recently Vanity Fair speculated that Lashana Lynch, a confirmed co-star in the upcoming 25th Bond film, would wind up being crowned the new 007.

However Brosnan seemed to doubt that a hand-off to a female 007 would take place as long as the film’s current producers are in charge.

“I don’t think that’s going to happen with the Broccolis,” Brosnan told THR. “I don’t think that is going to happen under their watch.”

Filming for the next Bond film has begun in Jamaica, as well as in London and at Pinewood Studios.

Fleabag’s Phoebe Waller-Bridge is working on the film, No Time To Die, making its female characters “feel like real people”.

Outgoing Bond Daniel Craig believes a woman would be his ideal successor.

“I think that everybody should be considered,” Craig said in April. “Also for women and for African Americans, there should be great parts anyway, across the board.”
