Metal Heart star Jordanne Jones has been named one of Screen International’s Stars of Tomorrow 2019.
The 18-year-old Dubliner is one of 13 actors unveiled alongside nine filmmakers and five heads of department from across the UK and Ireland.
Previous talent announced as Stars of Tomorrow have included Emily Blunt, Dominic Cooper, James McAvoy, Carey Mulligan, Richard Madden, John Boyega, and Irish stars Jessie Buckley, Ruth Negga, and Seana Kerslake.
Jordanne, who is currently studying film studies and English literature at Trinity College, first caused a stir in Frank Berry’s 2014 film I Used to Live Here in which the then 12-year-old played a 13-year-old girl contemplating suicide.
Her stunning performance earned her a best female lead nomination at the IFTAs.
At the age of 14 she had a role in RTE series Rebellion (and returned in 2016 for the follow-up, Resistance), where she first encountered Hugh O’Connor, who went on to direct her in her first leading role in his debut feature Metal Heart, which is currently in cinemas.
A former champion boxer, Jordanne is now filming a recurring role in the upcoming 19th century TV mystery Dead Still.
The other actors among the Stars of Tomorrow 2019 are Sam Adewunmi, Anson Boon, Dixie Egerickx, Viveik Kalra, Synnove Karlsen, Vicky Knight, Emma Mackey, James McArdle, Himesh Patel, Chance Perdomo, Nabhaan Rizwan, and Rose Williams.
