Strictly Come Dancing contestant Tom Fletcher has shared a heartfelt video ahead of tonight's live show as he and professional dance partner Amy Dowden were forced to sit out of week two when they tested positive for Covid-19.

It came as the popular pairing were training in between going on tour for 36 year old Tom's band McFly, which involved lots of travel and a gruelling schedule up north.

Sadly, despite both stars being double vaccinated, the rules dictate they had to self-isolate individually to minimise risk of spreading the virus, and as a result Tom hasn't even been able to see his wife Giovanna Fletcher, 31, or children Buzz, seven, Buddy, five, and Max, three, either.

Speaking about feeling poorly and lonely along with missing his kids on his Instagram Stories Saturday 2 October, Tom began: “Today is a tough day. It’s a Strictly day. I’m going to be watching Strictly tonight.

“I’ll be cheering everyone on. I desperately, desperately, wish I was there dancing," the musician continued, as he also told fans he'd slept a "mammoth 11 hours" after feeling exhausted from his illness.

"I know Amy will be doing the same and it will be incredibly frustrating," Tom went on. “But what’s even more frustrating is not being able to see my kids."

The boyband member also explained how strange it's been watching his little boys from afar as being in lockdown has made the time seem to go on forever.

And yet, Tom said it felt like the children had grown so much right before his eyes.

Filming himself watching them through the window later on, Tom chuckled and told his followers the boys were "cheeky monkeys" as they excitedly climbed into his car and beeped the horn at him.

It comes as Welsh pro Amy shared her own post on Instagram admitting she was really missing the getting ready routine ahead of Saturday night shows.

“I can’t tell you how much I am missing today’s band call, hair and make up, dress run and the nerves of a live show!” she wrote next to a selfie with the McFly star. “I can’t even begin to explain but so grateful to be able to return next week for movie week with the lovely @tomfletcher #mcflowden.

“Sending all my love and luck in the World to all the fabulous couples today.

"I’m going to be on the edge of my sofa shouting and supporting you all (you will probs hear me at Elstree)!” the dancer added.

Ever the cheeky chap on the show, BBC Breakfast presenter Dan Walker told Amy in the comments that he and Nadia Bychkova had taken their dressing room in their absence.

"See you soon guys. We all miss you but @nadiabychkova and I have been upgraded to your lovely dressing room so – even though you’re not here – you are spreading a bit of en-suite joy," the journalist teased.
