Three million pounds worth of fine jewellery lent to Rita Ora for Cannes Film Festival was left on the plane to France, last week.
The singer’s borrowed accessories were sent to Nice from London’s Luton airport on an easyJet in the care of a courier who allegedly forgot them when she disembarked the plane.
The Telegraph reports that the employee only realised she’d left behind the precious cargo, along with her own coat, when the flight was on its way back to London Heathrow.
It’s the kind of expensive mistake you’d never make twice (that is, if you ever get asked again).
A police source told the AFP: ‘Someone with their head in the clouds nearly lost several million.’
The missing diamonds were immediately reported to French authorities who ensured that the high-value suitcase safely made its way back to the UK, care of the budget airline. Phew.
But, sadly for Rita, it meant that she was unable to wear the millions of pounds worth of ice for her scheduled appearances at the 72nd annual Cannes Film Festival last weekend.
It’s understood that the pieces were all lent to the musician by London-based jewellery brands specifically for the red carpet.
Rita hosted an event for ice cream brand Magnum last Thursday, making no fewer than three outfit changes that really would have looked great with some expensive jewellery.
The singer returned to the UK this week while she prepared to bring her Phoenix tour home.
She was back on stage at the Bournemouth International Centre on Thursday night, following a show at Cardiff’s Motorpoint Arena on Tuesday.
