‘Over possessive’ Meghan Markle is ‘in control’ says body language expert

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex looked just like any other couple in love when they were seen kissing at a polo match.

But Meghan appears to be the one who is “in control” of the relationship, according to our expert – and is displaying “over-possessive and maternal” behaviour with Prince Harry.

Meghan, 40, was snapped grabbing at her husband’s face before planting a kiss on his lips while she presented his winning team with their prizes at the Santa Barbara Polo & Racquet Club near their mansion in Montecito, California.

And according to body language expert Judi James, the display may hint at the relationship dynamic between the couple.

“Meghan adopted a ‘command, control, steer’ mode, placing both hands around Harry’s face as they kissed,” she told us, adding that the way Meghan placed her hand on 37-year-old Harry’s chest was “attention-seeking”.

Meghan channelled Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman, wearing a wide-brimmed hat, polka-dot blouse, high-waisted shorts and towering stilettos, finishing her look with a swipe of eye-catching bright red lipstick.

But it was the lipstick that caused the afternoon’s biggest talking point – after realising she had left traces on her husband’s face, a giggling Meghan wiped it away.

“This is an etiquette problem,” says Judi.

“Gestures like this in public are over-possessive and maternal.

"They remind us of how parents used to whip a hankie out to embarrass us when we were being dropped off at school."

She adds: “Doing it so publicly at a sporting event where Harry was in full macho mode could be seen as territory marking.”

The Sussexes are now preparing to pack their bags and head to the UK with children Archie, three, and Lilibet, 11 months, to join in the fun at the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations over the bank holiday weekend.

It will be the first time Harry’s wider family – including the Queen and Prince Charles – have met Lilibet, who celebrates her first birthday on 4 June.

After initially stating that “security concerns” could keep them away, they relented.

Earlier this month, a spokesperson confirmed: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are excited and honoured to attend the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations this June with their children.”
