Tom Fletcher, 36, has been learning a range of “tricky lifts and tricks”, as he admitted his performance for this Saturday’s Strictly Come Dancing is “risky”. In a rehearsal session with his dance partner Amy Dowden today, the McFly singer revealed the pair had both ended up “on the floor” after a lift during their Salsa routine “went wrong”.

The next live show will see the pair dance to Watermelon Sugar by Harry Styles.

However, Tom has already been left worrying about injuring his dance partner, as he admitted the pair haven’t done “well enough” in accomplishing the routine yet.

Speaking to his Instagram followers on his story this afternoon, the songwriter asked Amy: “It’s lunchtime, how are you feeling?”

The Strictly dancer replied cheerily: “I’m feeling good.”

However, Tom was clearly feeling less optimistic, as he continued: “I did drop you, we both ended up on the floor.

“The lift went wrong. Don’t know why, don’t know whose fault that was…,” he quipped, while pointing at himself.

Feeling undeterred from the mistakes in rehearsals, Tom added: “We’re going to fuel up now and I’m going to be stronger.”

The pair filmed themselves walking to grab a bite to eat around the studio lot at Elstree, where Strictly is filmed.

After they had devoured some undoubtedly nutritious cuisine, Amy and Tom got back to training.

Sharing their progress later on in the day, the McFly singer filmed himself lying on the dance studio floor, while admitting: “We’ve hit a bit of a wall, haven’t we? Oh, this is so hard.

“We have ended up on the floor a few times. We thought having an audience would help, but I fell on my head.”

Amy interjected: “It was good this morning, but this afternoon we have fallen every time.”

Tom could no longer hold in his nerves, as he replied: “Seriously though, this is the most worried I have been. We haven’t done this well enough yet.

“It’s Thursday and we don’t have any more rehearsals.”

Speaking about the routine with Tom in a recent video on Instagram, Amy told fans that the pair are being “pushed” by the Strictly team.

She said: “We are taking risks this week, aren’t we Tom?”

Tom replied: “It is risky,” before he added: “I might drop Amy on her head.”

Amy insisted: “No you won’t, you won’t! But there is a chance, but you won’t!”

The couple are set to perform on BBC One this Saturday at 7.10pm.
