Michelle Collins gushes about marrying beau of 10 years after tragic death of mum and best friend

EastEnders legend Michelle Collins gushed to the Loose Women panel today about her upcoming wedding to her partner of 10 years.

Michelle Collins, 59, revealed that her long-term partner Mike Davidson had proposed to her on April 1 2022.

The soap star told today’s Loose Women that it “wasn’t on her agenda” to get married, though the couple had been together for 10 years.

Asked by the panel what it was that made the pair take the plunge, she replied: “We survived the pandemic together – it actually brought us closer together.”

Michelle also opened up about her struggles the last few years alongside Covid – her mum and her best friend died in the same year.

She said: “It’s actually been a really challenging time, and I just think we should do it, why wait you know? And you have to live life from day to day now.”

The actress beamed while speaking about her plans for the wedding, saying that friends were coming down from Australia, Italy, and more for the event.

“I think my friends are more happy than I am,” she laughed.

Michelle first shared the news in April, sharing a snap of her abroad in Los Angeles, sporting a black cap and sunglasses and showing off a gorgeous engagement ring.

She shared the photo with the caption: “So this happened in #la he got down on bended knee while we were on the top of #temescalcanyon basically no one else around just us.

“It’s #beautiful and I’m #happy #10years this April about time I think #magicmike. #Thankyou @val_king_ for having us and making us so #welcome as always ! #greatlady.”

The pair were originally set up by Michelle’s niece in 2012, as she knew Mike from working in retail.

Michelle said when they first got together: “I don’t want to tempt fate by talking about my personal life.

“I want to avoid the curse of celebrity magazines, where as soon as people reveal how blissfully in love they are it all falls apart! All I’ll say is I’m enjoying life right now.”

Sadly, in 2021, Michelle’s mum passed away after a long battle with skin cancer. Michelle shared the news at the time on Instagram, writing: “My beautiful mummy passed away on Friday 30th April.

“We are all devastated. She leaves behind partner Sid, daughters Vicky and myself, 3 grandchildren Charlotte, Jack and Maia and her nephews and nieces whom she loved very much and her little dog #nano from @alldogsmatter.

“She was the strongest, kindest woman I knew. Fierce, protective, passionate, clever, funny, articulate. She gave Vicky and I our #drive and #hunger for life.”
