Leighton Meester is Not Opposed to Appearing on the "Gossip Girl" Reboot

Hey there, Upper East Siders. We’re still waiting to hear when the second season of the HBO Max Gossip Girl reboot will drop, but in the meantime, we have some promising news to tide us over.

In a new interview with FOX 5’s Good Day New York, Leighton Meester, who starred as Blair Waldorf in the original Gossip Girl series, addressed whether or not she would ever reprise her role as the iconic Manhattanite.

“I don’t know, maybe,” she said. “I’m not really sure. I will say, I’ve watched the new one. I do think it’s really awesome. I’m happy for them, I feel like they’re doing a whole new thing, and I don’t think that we don’t fit in — I can only speak for myself, I don’t feel like I don’t fit in — but I will say, I feel really good sort of sitting back and leaving it to the kids, to the young, new generation. They’re doing so awesome.”

But she left GG fans with a glimmer of hope. “That’s all I’ll say for now. You never say never.”

Season one of the Gossip Girl reboot featured some familiar faces from the original series, such as Nelly Yuki (Yin Chang). Members of Blair’s family even made an appearance, including her mother Eleanor Waldorf (Margaret Colin), stepfather Cyrus Rose (Wallace Shawn), and her former housekeeper but forever confidant Dorota (Zuzanna Szadkowski).

Plus, this wouldn’t be Leighton’s first surprise cameo in a series — in January, the actress made an unexpected appearance in the first episode of Hulu’s How I Met Your Father.
