Kristen Wiig 'welcomes twins via surrogate' with fiancé Avi Rothman

Kristen Wiig has reportedly become a mum to twins via surrogate.

The Bridesmaid actress welcomed twins with fiancé Avi Rothman earlier this year, according to People.

The 46-year-old hinted at her motherhood during a special At Home episode of Saturday Night Live for Mother’s Day in the US last month, when she thanked her mother Laurie Johnston for ‘preparing me to be a mom myself’.

Wiig said: ‘This is the Mother’s Day show, and at SNL, it’s a very special time to celebrate moms. Unfortunately, probably like a lot of you, I can’t be with my mom on this Mother’s Day. So I hope it’s OK, I would like to tell her I love her.

‘I don’t know if I truly appreciated my mom the first 45 years of my life. But this year I’m feeling especially grateful for her advice, her love. I’m so thankful for all the things she’s taught me, like preparing to be a mom myself. Things like breastfeeding…’

The comedian then held up a plate of chicken breasts and said: ‘Babies love that chicken, she would always say that.’

Kristen and actor Avi were first seen together back in 2016 when they packed on the PDA during a trip to Hawaii, but have kept their relationship relatively out of the spotlight.

It was confirmed in August 2019 that the pair were engaged.

Rothman is a writer, actor, producer and director, and has some common ground with his wife-to-be, as they both trained at the iconic Groundlings theatre in Los Angeles.

The twins are the first children for both Kristen and Avi.

Ghostbusters star Wiig was previously married to actor Hayes Hargrove from 2005 until 2009, and dated The Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti.

Back in 2013, she told Look magazine that while she didn’t have her mind made up on a second marriage, family was definitely on the cards.

She said: ‘I believe if you’re in a good, healthy relationship, there is nothing better. I don’t have a specific stance on marriage. I think it’s right for some people, and I know a lot of people who didn’t believe in it, then they met someone.

‘I’d like to have a family. I would love to have kids.’

While Kristen may be up to her elbows in nappies, she has plenty to deal with in her career – the actress stars in the delayed superhero movie Wonder Woman 1984, and has two films in post production – Barb and Star Go To Vista Del Mar and A Boy Called Christmas.

Metro.co.uk has contacted Wiig’s rep for comment.
