Three First Dates newcomers have spoken out about life backstage on the popular Channel 4 series. Joining Fred Sirieix, Merlin Griffiths and waiting staff CiCi Coleman and Grant Urquhart for the 16th series are David, Fiona and Daniella.

The trio spoke candidly about life behind-the-scenes in the BAFTA-award winning series, which sees singletons set up on a blind date in a quest to find love.

Daniella, 25, is from Manchester and is a waitress, Fiona, 30, is originally from Huddersfield and works as a mixologist while David, 28, has always worked in hospitality.

The trio has since dished on whether they had ever applied to appear on the Channel 4 dating series.

Daniella admitted she had her eyes on finding love on the show before getting the gig.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk and other publications, the waitress admitted she applied when she was “desperate”.

Daniella confessed: “I did apply a few years ago when I was 18. You know when you’re so desperate and single.

“But now I’m on it, God has given me my path of life now.”

She said she is now confident she will find The One at some point.

Daniella commented: “Somehow I’ve landed on [the show] and this may help me find it.”

The new waitress was not alone in her quest for love as hospitality newcomer David dished on his dating life.

He remarked: “It’s funny. I’m single so I’m looking for that Mr Right.

“Obviously I’ve dated but things didn’t work out.”

David added: “I think for me, First Dates is the show that makes love happen. I think if you’re single just get in there.”

Meanwhile, Daniella confessed that despite her waitressing background, she was surprised by the fact she had to “serve tables” during the filming of the series.

The First Dates cast member anticipated that the whole reality series was a façade and didn’t think the show used a functioning restaurant until she turned up to work.

Daniella explained: “I expected it all to be false.

“I expected that if I were to apply for the show, I wouldn’t serve tables.”

She continued: “But you are serving tables, taking orders, it is a real functioning restaurant.

“Being a waitress anyway, it was like coming into a new job on First Dates. It’s amazing.”

First Dates airs tonight on Channel 4 at 10pm.
