Zoe Lucker, 47, was a fan favourite for her portrayal of Max Branning’s (played by Jake Wood) love-interest Vanessa Gold in EastEnders, before she made an explosive exit from Albert Square in 2011. The Footballers’ Wives star has now revealed that although she “loved” her experience in the EastEnders cast, there is one big issue holding her back from making a return to the BBC soap.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Express.co.uk, Zoe shared her concerns about TV projects taking away quality time with her 12-year-old daughter Lilly, who she shares with husband Jim Herbert.
Reflecting on her time on the Square, Zoe said: “I really loved the speed that we worked on EastEnders, it’s very different from drama.
“But again, the camaraderie between the cast when you’re working on anything ongoing is just lovely, and you’re all working within a bubble.
“I loved EastEnders, absolutely loved being part of that show.”
When quizzed on whether she would be keen to make a comeback to the hit soap, Zoe explained she may be open to it in the future, but only when her daughter is “not going to need her as much as she does now”.
The actress divulged: “I think it depends, I really love being home with my daughter.
“I always found it was a big struggle trying to work away, and also trying to be the best mum I could be.
“I love being there to pick Lilly up from school every day.
“She’s nearly 13, and so, at some point, she’s obviously not going to need me as much as she does now, even though I always want her to need me this much, but there will come a time where that’s the case.
“So I’ll figure out what the future holds after that, I think.”
Zoe admitted: “She’s my only child and I just love being at home with her and being able to be there for her.
“So we’ll just have to wait and see what happens in the future really.”

Zoe went on to share her career plans, saying she has kept her schedule clear to ensure her focus is on her daughter.
She revealed: “Not anything at the moment, I’m at home with Lilly.
“She goes back to school in September and she goes into Year 8, so it’s leading up to GCSEs in a couple of years.
“So it would have to be the right thing that fitted in with her and with Jim, my husband, because he works all the time.
“So we’d just have to see what’s what, but at the moment my focus is definitely on Lilly.”
Although she won’t be working on any new TV series in the near future, Zoe is back on our screens as Tanya Turner in Footballers’ Wives, which can now be streamed via BritBox.
The series, which followed the fictional Premier League club, Earls Park, its players, and their wives, aired between 2002 and 2006.
It has become BritBox’s most requested series since the streaming site launched back in 2019.
Footballers’ Wives and Extra Time are available on BritBox.
