Danny Dyer admits wife Joanne ‘resents’ him over successful acting career

Danny Dyer has claimed his wife Joanne Mas "resents" him for his hugely-successful career in acting.

The EastEnders actor explained that part of the reason was due to their switched roles in recent years.

Before Danny, 44, hit the big time as a film and soap star, 45 year old Joanne was actually the main breadwinner – working as a financial adviser to put food on the table.

But when Danny's career started to take off, Joanne was left "serving chickens in Asda" the star said as he admitted she'd "sacrificed a lot" for him during his Sorted with the Dyers podcast.

"She sacrificed a lot for me," the star, who recently joked about praising his 25 year old daughter Dani's new beau Jarrod Bowen, said. "The idea that I was going to be an actor, coming from where I come from, I didn't stand a chance.

"When you come from somewhere like Custom House it was a dream," he added speaking of the area in London he grew up in.

The actor continued: "The idea of one partner sacrificing a potential career to let the other one go off and roll the dice and be free, and fly, she did allow that.

"She resents me for it now," he added.

The married couple, who first met over 20 years ago when they were just 14, share three children together – Love Island star Dani, teenager Sunnie, 14, and son Arty, eight.

The couple got married in September 2016 at an intimate ceremony in Hampshire, which followed a Valentine's Day proposal a year earlier.

In a sweet moment for the couple, Joanne was the one who got down on one knee as she asked her life partner to finally tie the knot.

Recalling how he and Joanne had started their life together, Danny said: "I remember when she first came out of school and got nine GCSEs she had to go to Asda serving up the chickens and on the pizza counter.

"And, of course, me being the ilk that I was who didn't get any GCSEs, I was working in Manchester filming and giving it the big I am. She did me a shot, she said, 'You go and do it," the Albert Square favourite added.

While there's been "ups and downs" in their relationship over the years, Danny is under no illusion how much Joanne has supported him throughout his life and career.

When the couple got married, he gushed she was the love of his life, and without her, he'd be "nothing".
