Chris Evans, 54, has, like the rest of the nation, become a huge fan of 100-year-old Captain Sir Tom Moore, who was famed for raising over £30million for NHS charities during the coronavirus lockdown by walking laps of his garden. But despite being given a knighthood for his amazing efforts, he revealed he still hasn’t found love, something Chris and his team wanted to discuss on-air.
I knew he was up to something!
After reading that the war hero had admitted he was waiting for romance offers while being bombarded with fan mail, Chris giggled: “Have you heard about Captain Sir Tom?” he exclaimed to his co-stars Rachel Horne and Vassos Alexander.
“He said in the paper over the weekend, that all this fame and his new knighthood is all well and good but it hasn’t found him a lady!”
Chris hinted that now his hard work fundraising is over, Captain Tom can move onto focus on more personal things in his life such as love, and with his worldwide fame it shouldn’t be hard!
He added, grinning: “I knew he was up to something!”
In a recent interview Captain Tom was optimistic that some of the 380,000 cards and letters he has received over the past few months might be from flirty admirers.
“We haven’t opened all the letters yet. But I haven’t had any marriage proposals – or not yet, anyway!” he joked, speaking to Radio Times.
The war veteran has been married in the past to wife Pamela, who sadly passed away in 2006 from a degenerative brain disorder.
In no doubt that the centenarian would eventually find love again, Chris joked: “It’s getting the football team when you were at school, it’s getting a little hatchback when your 18-19.”
He continued: “It’s buying a bigger one when you’re older, it’s getting a job and having all the chat but when you’re 100, this ruse of raising £30-odd-million for charity, it’s all about the ladies!”
The team laughed but were certain the icon who caught the attention of the world, will find what his heart desires in the near future.
Elsewhere, Chris was thinking about his own relationship with his lady, after realising his wife Natasha hadn’t used a Christmas present he bought her years ago.
The gift, a steamer, may not be to everyone’s taste for a festive present, but the radio DJ insisted it was something she had wanted and that she was “thrilled” when she unwrapped it.

He told Rachel: “I did buy Tash a steamer for Christmas a couple of years ago. I thought she’d be thrilled with it, and she was thrilled with it.
“But she’s never used it,” he sighed.
His co-star asked: “A floor cleaning steamer or one for clothes?”
Chris replied: “Clothes and curtains. I thought she’d love that.”
Wanting to know if he’d made a mistake buying the household cleaner, he asked: “Would you like that if Alex bought you one?”
“I had one and I didn’t use it,” Rachel admitted, sheepishly after revealing she had bought it herself.
Chris still seemed a little confused why Natasha hadn’t touched the handy gadget, which appears to be gathering dust!
The Chris Evans Breakfast Show with Sky airs weekdays at 6.30am on Virgin Radio.
