Alex Jones, 43, was replaced on the BBC’s The One Show by host Gethin Jones, 43 and Alex Scott, 36. The Welsh-born presenter revealed that she had come into contact with someone who had contracted coronavirus.

Appearing by video call from her home, Alex explained she had recently met a friend from outside work who had subsequently tested positive for the virus and was therefore self-isolating.

The mum-of-two explained she wanted to do the responsible thing and isolate at home over the next week.

Alex admitted she was “gutted” as she offered an apology while speaking via video link.

She also confirmed that she and her family had thankfully tested negative for Covid-19.

Former footballer Alex [Scott], asked: “Lots of people have been asking where our lovely Alex Jones is. We’ve been missing her too.

“I’m pleased to say she is going to be joining us right now. Al? There she is.”

The Welsh-born presenter then popped up on the screen via video from her kitchen.

Alex said: “I’m really sorry, you know, I’m absolutely gutted that I’m not there.
